Heritage Trip To China

LiLi Visits China
After nine years we decided it was time for LiLi to return to China. Tomorrow we leave for Hong Kong. We are staying in the same hotel that we stayed 9 years ago the day we flew to China to be united with LiLi.
Our exchange student from last year,  Yan Li, is meeting us and will travel will us for two weeks as we visit Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Kunming, Lijang and Beijing. We will get our first real taste of LiLi's homeland as tourists as we see The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, The Stone Forest and more.

We have a long flight to Hong Kong through Seattle but we are stocking up with books, devices and snacks.
Next stop Kowloon!!

I didn't realize Yan would be joining you - how wonderful! The only cities on your itinerary that I visited are Hong Kong/Kowloon and Beijing. Cathy and I spent hours in the Forbidden City. It was awe-inspiring, and can take a full day. Insiders' tip: the steamed buns in the cafeteria on the premises are AMAZING! ;)

If you haven't already planned to do so, while in Beijing be sure to visit a hutong and The Temple of Heaven. Both are accessible via subway/metros (which are way more crowded than we're used to). While the Temple of Heaven has beautiful old buildings and structures, it's also located in a very large public park, where we saw hundreds of Chinese doing synchronized exercise in the morning. We stayed at the Hotel Kapok, an easy walk to the Forbidden City and various public transportation options, and to the night-time food stalls a la Anthony Bourdain. The Great Wall was the highlight of our trip, but it's quite strenuous. Don't be afraid to take the chair lift up and the bobsled down (you'll see).

Can't wait to read about YOUR adventures!
